B. Pharm

Duration: 4 years (8 semester)

Eligibility: Candidates should have passed 10+2 examination with Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects along with one of the following subjects Mathematics / Computer Science / Biotechnology / Biology with 40% marks (35% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the above subjects taken together. Candidates who have passed D. Pharm course are eligible for admission directly to II year B. Pharm (Lateral Entry).

Age: 17 years and above as on 31st December of admission Year.


Industrial Tour & Training
A candidate, after completing III year are IV year shall undergo practical training in pharmaceutical Manufacturing House / Approved hospital / CSIR research laboratories for a period not less than 150 hours to be covered in not less than 45 days. They should submit two copies of the training report duly certified by the authorities of the training centre in which he / she undergoes training.

Candidates studying in final year of the course shall visit several pharmaceutical Manufacturing Houses as a supplement to their academic training and submit a report to the Principal.

D. Pharm

Course Duration: 2 years practical training of 500 hours spread over a period of not less than 3 months in a government hospital / pharmacy / chemists & druggists.

Eligibility: A pass in Pre-university course / 10+2 / PDC/ Intermediate / Higher Secondary examination in Science with Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects.

Age: 17 Years and above as on 31st December of the year of admission.

Attendance Requirement: A minimum of 80% in both theory and practical classes is mandatory to get eligibility for sessional / internal assessment as well as annual examination.

Examination: Internal assessment / sessional examination There will be three periodic sessional / internal assessment examinations in theory and practical during the academic year for maximum marks of 20 per subject. Average of the best two sessional marks will be considered.

Board Exam: Examination will be conducted by the Board of Examination Authority, Drugs Control Department, Bengaluru.

Hospital Training: After having appeared in the final examination of second year, the student must undergo 500 hours of practical training in a government hospital / pharmacy / chemists & druggists which is recognized by the Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi.

Proposed New Courses

M. Pharm

Duration: Two years

The course is divided into four semester of 6 months each. First and second semesters deal with course work and semesters three &four deal with project work.

Eligibility: A candidate should have passed B. Pharm degree examination of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences or B. Pharm degree from any other University recognized by PCI with 50% of marks.

Attendance: A minimum of 80% in both theory and practical (regular) class is essential to be eligible for sessional as well as annual exams.

Specialisation available:

• Pharmaceutics

Scheme of Exam: Two sessional examinations is conducted for 30 marks in both theory and practical.

University Examination: Examination will be conducted for first and second semesters at the end respective semester. Project work (dissertation work) should be submitted as a part of third and fourth semesters for which viva voce on dissertation work is conducted at the end of the IV semester.

Pharm. D

Duration: 6 Years (5 years study in the college and 1 year internship in the hospital)

Eligibility: Pass in 12th standard / Pre-University Course / Higher Secondary Course / Intermediate with Physics and chemistry subjects.

Age: 17 years and above as on 31st December of the year of admission.

Attendance: A minimum of 80% attendance in both theory and practical classes is mandatory for getting eligibility for sessional and University

Internal Assessment marks: During each academic year three sessional examinations in both theory and practical papers will be conducted for a maximum of 30 marks and an average of the best two marks will be considered to qualify for the annual examination.

Minimum marks for passing Examination: 50% of marks in each subject is compulsory for pass in annual examination.


Practical Training

a) Clinical facility: Clinical facilities are provided at parent hospital (Shridevi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Hospital) Tumkur.

b) Hospital posting: Every student shall be posted in the hospital for a period of not less than 75 hours to be covered in not less than 200 working days in II, III and IV year. In the V year, every student shall spend half a day in the morning hours attending ward rounds on daily basis as a part of clerkship.

c) Project work: A project work shall be carried out under the supervision of a teacher. To allow the student to develop data collection and reporting skills in the area of community, hospital and clinical pharmacy, The project topic must be approved by Head of the department or Head of the institution. Written report of the project work shall be presented as a seminar at the end of the academic year. External and internal examiners shall do the assessment of the project work.


Internship: In VI year, Every student must complete one year mandatory internship. Internship is a phase of training where a student is expected to conduct actual practice of pharmacy and health care under supervision through which the student acquires skill to function independently in various departments of the hospital. A student shall be permitted to the internship only after having passed in theory and practical of all subjects of all previous years.
